Domain has exceeded the maximum defers and failures per hour
If at any point, when trying to send an email you get a bounceback message similar to the following:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
email@address.com.au
Domain yourdomain.com.au has exceeded the max defers and failures per hour (5/5 (50%)) allowed. Message discarded.
This means that a higher than average number of messages have recently been sent from you domain and many of these have either been sent to email addresses that don’t exist or have otherwise failed to reach their recipients.
This is a precautionary system put in place to avoid large amounts of spam being sent from the server. Often, when spam is being sent out, many of the addresses to which it is being sent are no longer active and therefore fail. This system is designed to detect a large number of failures and then to stop further email being sent from the domain for the next hour to prevent spam.
If you receive this message shortly after email a large number of recipients, you will need to go through the list of email addresses you have emailed and be sure to remove any addresses that are no longer in use in order to prevent this from occurring again.
If you have received this message and are sure that neither you or any other email account owner under your domain has sent out a lot of emails, please contact support immediately as this is an indication that one or more of your email accounts has been compromised.
If you are unsure or have any questions regarding this message, please contact support and we will be happy to help.
