How to set up an email forwarder

An email forwarder will allow you to forward any emails sent to an inbox to another email address. This may come in handy if you would like any emails to be sent to a specific email address to be forwarded to many other people. It can also be helpful if an employee is currently on leave and rather than give their stand-in their email account details, you can have any emails intended for the absent employee to be sent to someone else.

1. First, sign in to your cPanel. You can do this by going to www.yourdomain.com.au:2083 and then typing in the cPanel username and password, or you can login through the Host Geek client portal, click the large green “Active Hosting” button, then the orange “cPanel logo beneath the cPanel account you wish to access.

2. Once signed in, navigate to the "Email" section and click the "Forwarders" icon.

3. On the Forwarders page, you will see a list of forwarders currently configured. If you have not yet set up a forwarder, there will be nothing here. To setup a new forwarder, click "Add Forwarder" (To have all emails sent to any email address on a domain, you can instead click "Add Domain Forwarder", the next steps can apply for both.

4. When adding a forwarder, you need to type the first part of the email address from which you would like to forward email. You can then select the domain for the email address. If you only have one domain configured in your cPanel, this will display by default. For "Destination", simply type the email account to which you would like to forward the email. In the below example, any email sent to thegeek@hostgeekguide.com.au will also be forwarded to thegeek@anotherdomain.com.au. Once you are happy with your forwarder, click the "Add Forwarder" button.

Your forwarder is now active!

TIP: When adding a forwarder, it is important to remember that along with forwarding the email, a copy of the email will also be placed in the original inbox. You can also add forwarders for inboxes that do not exist, so even though an inbox for thegeekette@hostgeekguide.com.au has not been created under this cPanel account, we could still setup a forwarder to send any email sent to thegeekette@hostgeekguide.com.au to forward the email to thegeek@hostgeekguide.com.au. This can be very useful if you would like multiple email addresses or common misspellings of email addresses to allow email through to another account.
